Background Information

Grands ‘n’ More Winnipeg was launched in October 2007, in response to what we had come to know about both the Stephen Lewis Foundation and its Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. Today, the Campaign encompasses about 240 varied groups across Canada, each of which interprets and applies the Campaign’s missions of Awareness/Education/Outreach and Fundraising. All the groups raise funds for projects in 15 sub-Saharan countries. In the past 11 years, about $28 million has been raised for a wide variety of African-designed, African-led grassroots projects which support African grandmothers. All our work is intended to improve the lives of the grandmothers and AIDS-orphaned children in their care.

Between 2006 and 2018 (the last statistical year), the Stephen Lewis Foundation has worked with 325 Community-based organizations within 15 sub-Saharan countries. Seventeen hundred (1700) projects have been supported. These projects support the African grandmothers who provide care to their orphaned grandchildren and other vulnerable children.

For media inquiries, we have dedicated volunteers who are available to provide more information.
